Road Trauma Support Counsellors to deliver training in Williams

Injury Matters | May 17, 2018

Our counsellors will head to Williams later this month to deliver a specially designed grief trauma and loss workshop to first responders from Williams and the surrounding areas.

The workshp entitled ‘Working with Grief, Loss and Trauma: How to Support Yourself and Others’ is designed to equip emergency services personnel – both paid and voluntary – with the knowledge and resources to respond appropriately to those who are dealing with grief and trauma, undertake death notifications, understand the impact working with grief and trauma can have on you as an individual and to assist in the development of self care strategies to prevent burn out and the onset of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The workshops have been designed to be interactive and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and ideas across different services and to promote peer discussion and support with emphasis will be on participants developing their own self-care strategies.

The RTSWA counselling team has facilitated workshops in Perth, Margaret River, Bunbury and Mount Barker with plans for future workshops in other metropolitan and regional areas.

The workshops can also be tailored to accommodate the needs of those outside the emergency services sector but who may be exposed to road trauma in the course of their work.

The Williams workshop will be held on Thursday May 31st at the Williams Community Resource Centre from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm. Bookings are essential.
