Drivers young and old to benefit from newly released driving guide

ROAD TRAUMA SUPPORT WA | August 9, 2017

The WA Department of Transport recently updated its Drive Safe booklet. This comprehensive and easy-to-read guide for driving in Western Australia is ideal for those who are new to our roads as well as providing a handy refresher for more experienced drivers.

It provides an easily digestible guide to the road rules in WA which is designed to assist all drivers, regardless of their level of experience, to drive safely on our roads.

However, it’s important to remember that although a good knowledge of the traffic laws will help you drive more safely, research shows that human behaviour is a factor in more than 90 per cent or road crashes.

The biggest killers continue to be our ‘fatal five’ – speeding, drinking and driving, failing to wear a seat belt, fatigue and driving while distracted.

Statistics show us that although road users between 17 and 24 years of age make up just 15 per cent of the population, they account for one third of all road deaths in Western Australia.

So, whether you’re just starting out on the roads or you’ve been driving for a number of years, take the time to have a read through this handy guide.
