Road Trauma Support WA Patron

Dr Sudhakar Rao

Road Trauma Support WA, the Injury Control Council of WA and Board of Directors are extremely pleased and proud to have Dr Sudhakar Rao as our Patron.

Dr Rao is State Director of Trauma Services in WA, based at Royal Perth Hospital, where the unit provides state of the art emergency trauma and critical care for complex injured patients. He is a Colorectal and General Surgeon, and Consultant Trauma Surgeon.

Regularly called on to provide media comment about road trauma, Dr Rao has been a well-regarded guest speaker at the award winning annual RAC BStreetSmart event for secondary school students which enacts the aftermath of a crash scene and shows the direct impact a road trauma incident can have on those involved. He also appears in Episode One: The State of Inattention (2013) one of RAC's many campaigns for safer driving.

Dr Rao has played a key role in establishing the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) program at RPH and has received a number of achievement awards, including the Office of Road Safety Award in 2011, the 2005 NSW Government Humanitarian Service Award and 2004 ICCWA Award for outstanding achievement in injury prevention.

Dr Rao previously served as the Injury Control Council of Western Australia (ICCWA) patron for the 2012 ICCWA Community Safety Month.

We believe Road Trauma Support WA's partnership with Dr Rao as Patron is extremely rewarding as we support West Australians who have experienced road trauma and work together to improve outcomes for these people.
